History

In 1991 a new dulcimer music group was being established in the Basic Music School. Young, talented pupils gathered under the sensitive leadership of Pavel Štulír, and, after learning scales and etudes, began to discover a new, previously unknown musical world: the world of folk songs and folk music. They were having their first experiences of playing in a dulcimer group and with an initial spontaneity they slowly developed the possibilities of playing together in an organized way. Thanks to these musicians’ hard work, endless hours of rehearsals, and enthusiasm for the folk song, they soon achieved success. Everywhere where the young BMS music group performed, the audience was carried away not only by the youth of players themselves, by their spontaneity and enthusiasm, but also by the maturity of their music art despite their young age. Let’s remember their success in earning the well-deserved title of International Festival prize winner at Strážnice in the year 1999.

The history of CIFRA dulcimer music band started in September 1999, when some young musicians left the Basic Music School. They themselves without any other leadership opened a new chapter in the history of their common music performance. CIFRA was made up of nine boy musicians and two girl singers at that time. Petr Číhal, the prime player, was responsible for the choice and arrangement of compositions. Initial problems with musical instruments, a place for rehearsals and organisation were solved after numerous successful public performances. In May 2000 this music group won the first prize in the all-state competition of children’s dulcimer music groups. One year after CIFRA became active as a dulcimer music band; it was enlarged as a dance group.

In August 2000, Petr Holoubek, leader of the CIFRA folklore ensemble, had the idea of forming a dancing section. Despite their youth, this group already had performed numerous times. From the beginning the ensemble included seven pairs of dancers, all of whom had been members of the Hradišťánek dancing ensemble.

Later the ensemble enlarged into sixteen dancing pairs. At the beginning the ensemble created the choreography independently but after five months the experienced dancer and choreographer Lenka Kraváčková started to be responsible for this task. In this way she accepted the role of the main choreographer and the leader of the dancing section
